Nelson Hayles describes himself at a versatile and flexible artiste, no subject is taboo for him to talk about in his lyrics. This young man from Pollyground, Ewarton in St. Catherine, the 4th of 7 boys for his mother, knows only too well the making of staying ahead and surviving amidst the competition. It’s this drive that propelled him to pursue a training course in Marine Navigation at Carbbean Maritime Institute, a part time course in music at Edna Manley College and his current course of study at the Portmore HEART NTA Academy whilst working full time at developing his career in Music. ‘I am learning more than the skill I went there [HEART] to learn. They teach entrepreneurial skills so you can build a sound business around your specific skill set and I can apply these skills to guiding my musical career’.
Nelson views Sam Cook, Aretha Franklin and Gramps Morgan as artistes he respects in the Music business, ‘they display a level of soulfulness in their delivery of the music which I just love’ he declares. He got his break in music back in the day, while singing for the youth ministry of his church in Portmore, since then he went on to record for producers such as David Kennedy, Snow (Tribute riddim) until he met his current producer, Dean Mundy of Vigilanti Entertainment in 2008. The pair has been in ‘development mode’ since then, training and recording for a ‘well rounded’ artiste. The current single ‘Hustle all over’ is the first effort released from this collaboration.
In 10 years time, Nelson sees himself as a very successful singer and musician [he plays the keyboard and guitar] living his ‘passion everyday’ he added
